"a day is special when you anticipate finding treasure"!
Don and I ventured out with a small ta do list in my purse looking for a weekend surprise. Checklist. Large storage box for miscellaneous wrapping paper. 2 open houses to sneak through and get ideas. Visit Mom and Dad. Find Vineyard on the local events calendar that we didn't know existed. Enjoy each others' company. Without getting into a fight over certain spouses driving!!! Dates come in all shapes and sizes after 31 years of marriage. Creativity is a key. Coast or Vineyard? Hmmm? To much wind at the coast to catch herring, so Vineyard, it is.
Independence Oregon is a small gem found at the "real" end of the Oregon trail. Farm's, orchards and vineyard's, richly planted in riverbed soil along the winding Willamette River. A country urban stretch just arm's length from Eugene, Portland and Salem, the State Capitol.
Remember that treasure I had planted into my thought before we ventured out? Found it!
A note about the wines

We live in Pinot country. How blessed we are. Their flight of wines was generous; I think we tasted eight. Pinot Grigio lovely. Usually what I prefer. Forgive me, I do not want to step on any Wine tasting toes here. I'm a novice about swirling it around in my mouth. How many legs or arms it may have. I'm an atmosphere kind of gal. Truth told, I have acted un-lady like before and used the "bad" wine spittoon. On more than one occasion. I would like to shout out that I purchase both glass and bottle of their 2015 Silver Medal Winner Estate Pinto Noir. I have never liked a Noir before yesterday. Momentous.
Worth the trip to have a sip. Blessings
A Big PS. Returning to Redgate over the 4th of July. Martin Gerschwitz. A true artist. Surprised again that a rocker from Iron Butterfly can play all 88 keys on the piano, pull out a violin, swoon classical and a toe tappin fiddle. Mark your calendars for a spotlight of culture.

Redgate Vineyard is a small, family-owned vineyard and winery crafting a small lot, artisanal wines reflecting the terroir of Redgate Estate.
Located just a ½ mile from the Willamette River and 12 miles SW of the State Capitol, Salem. Redgate Vineyard enjoys the cool coastal breezes that flow in through the Siletz River Valley, giving our wines a lively acidity that produces wines of great depth, longevity and distinction.
